Small Groups

Small Groups are the relational heart of the Church - it’s where people connect, share life and grow together.

Small Group consist of approximately 10-20 people who meet together on a regular basis around a shared interest or passion and are designed to help everyone in the Church, across every congregation to discover what God has put inside each one of us so that we live fruitful, effective lives for Him.

If you’re new to Church or would like to get to know some more people, joining a Small Group is a great place to start. Check out which Small Groups are happening and when below and sign up today!

Small Group FAQs

What happens at a Small Group?
Every group is different. Whether hanging off a climbing wall, going for a coffee with friends or helping the homeless, each Small Group is a place to bring people together so that they can connect, relate and grow with others in the life of the Church. To help make it easier to find the right Small Group for you, we’ve put each group into one of the following categories:

  • Connect - Church, but on a small scale! These groups are for people who want to develop deeper relationships with others of a similar life stage or passion.
  • Community - Based around a particular outreach, event or activity, these Small Groups have a more missional focus and outlook.
  • Equip - If you want to go deeper with God and with others we have a number of groups that meet to pray, study the Word and grow together.

Where and what time do Small Groups meet?
Our Small Groups meet on different days throughout the week and at various times so there’s bound to be one that fits in with your schedule. Most meet in homes but some, that are based around particular interests or activities, meet elsewhere. Check with the Small Group leader for specific details of the group you’re interested in joining.

Are Small Groups just for people in the Church?
Anyone can join a Small Group, you don’t have to be a member of the Church and they are a great opportunity to bring along unsaved friends and family so that they can connect with others in the Church and find out who we are and what we believe. Each group aims to have a missional focus as we reach out to those in our towns and communities - so why not think about who you could bring along with you!

How do I sign up?
If you’re already part of a Small Group or would like to join a different one then we have a Sign Up Sunday at the start of each Small Group season where you can chat to the Small Group leaders and find a group that suits you. You can also sign up to a group at any point online.

I’d like to join more than one Small Group - is that possible?
Yes, feel free to sign up for any Small Group you’d like to regularly attend. We recommend that you only sign up for a maximum of 2 Small Groups.

What if I choose a group but don’t like it?
That’s fine - you don’t have to stay! The important thing is that you find a Small Group where you are able to connect, relate and grow in faith with the other people in the group. You are very welcome to try a few!

How long do the Small Groups run for?
We have 3 Small Group seasons each year which are usually 10-12 weeks long; one from the end of January to March; one from mid April - mid July and the other from the end of September to mid December. We hold Sign-Up Sundays at the beginning of each season for you to find out what’s happening and choose which group you’d like to be a part of.

Bereavement Journey, The

equip

Bereavement can impact hugely and affect all areas of life. Developed at Holy Trinity Brompton and appreciated by thousands of people over 20 years, The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way. By means of a series of films and discussion groups the course gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps.

The Bereavement Journey is a 6 week course that runs regularly throughout the year, either over Zoom or in person.  The groups are very relaxed and create a space for you to share, listen and process. The groups are facilitated by people who themselves have gone through bereavement.

If you would like more information or would like to sign up for the next course, please get in touch.

Firm Foundation (Women's Group)
We are reading the Bible together and sharing our journeys of faith and trust in Jesus. We are at different stages of faith, from not knowing a lot about Jesus to being a follower of Him! We expect God to speak to us through His word, bring life and healing and help us grow! The Holy Spirit is our teacher. We have just started reading the book of Proverbs.

We meet every Thursday night on Zoom.

Overseas Missions Prayer

connect

This Small Group meets to pray for our overseas workers who are currently serving in a number of countries around the world. We pray to support them with their needs and to see the Gospel touch many lives and fulfil the Great Commission.  We are currently meeting every other week over Zoom from 1 - 2:30 on a Wednesday where we're joined by one or two of our overseas workers to share with us what God has been doing with the people they are reaching, as well as time to pray for them and others we are supporting.

If you would like to join us or would like more information, please get in touch.

Staying Fit & Connected

community

Formerly called Badminton and Swimming, We're a Small Group who (under normal circumstances) love to meet together for badminton, swimming and fellowship. However, during Lockdown we have not been able to meet for the badminton or swimming parts!  Instead, we are currently meeting for socially distanced walks with one other person on Sunday afternoons for some exercise as well as over Zoom as a group on Sunday evenings at 6pm every few weeks - we mostly spend the time catching up or praying together. We also keep in touch by WhatsApp, over the phone or with a socially distanced doorstep visit (where guidelines allow). Lately we have been joining with another Small Group on Friday evenings for communion over Zoom.

As the guidelines change, we will move back to meeting for badminton and swimming. We usually play badminton on Sunday afternoons at 3pm at Broadbridge Heath Sports Centre. This is usually followed by refreshments afterwards - Last summer we met in groups of six in a back garden and worshipped together.  We're also looking forward to being able to go swimming again (some of us hope to enter the next annual Swimathon!) - swimming is usually planned on an ad hoc basis.

If you would like to join us over Zoom, for a walk or would like more information about joining us when we can meet together when the Sports Centres open again, please get in touch.

Hello
I am pleased to say we will be recommencing our zoom studies on Thursday 6 October at 1.00pm and then repeating the study at 8.00pm on Thursday evening and Saturday morning at 10.00 am.

The Topic for this series is Jesus and His World.

Often we 21st century Christians find it difficult to understand what Jesus was saying to Jews in the 1st Century.  This series of studies will go some way to help us understand the culture and the context of Jesus’ teaching and the New Testament.

We will begin with Jesus the Rabbi and His disciples; then look at why the Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans; why were tax collectors despised and how Jesus used illustrations from agriculture to enhance His teaching.

On the 20th and 22nd October 2022, I will explain the meaning of Halloween and its origins.

In December we will look at The Facts and Myths of Christmas.

Here is the zoom link for the bible studies.  It is the same every week.

Walking in Love (Women's group)

community

Walking in Love (Women's Group)
Jesus commanded us to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and to love our neighbours as we love ourself. This is at the heart of this group. We share life together, encourage and pray for one another. We are currently working through the lifebuilder study "distorted images of self" which has been really powerful. We are led by the Holy Spirit and open to be transformed.

We are meeting on Monday mornings every fortnight.
