How to know Jesus

going deeper ...to go further

Daily Bible reading strengthens our relationship with God, nourishes our spirits and equips us to live a fruitful, effective life for Him.

This month we're looking at meditating on and declaring God's Word. The first reading each day is about the Word and the second passage is for you to meditate and reflect upon

  • HEB 10:19-25 Hebrews 10:19-25
  • 1THE 5:1-11 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
  • Access into the Holy of holies19Therefore, my dear brothers, since we believe in what He has accomplished for us through the shedding of His blood, we have confidence to enter boldly into the Holy of holies, the inner sanctuary of His heavenly presence.20He is the new living Way that enables us to pass through the curtain that prevented people from entering the Holy of holies.21So He has become the great Priest over all who belong to God's household.22Therefore, let us come near to God with true hearts and with great faith, because our hearts have been sprinkled with His blood to cleanse us from all guilt. We can now have clear consciences and be at peace with God. Our bodies are even made clean by receiving the pure living water of the Holy Spirit.23So let us not allow anything to distract us from the hope of what lies ahead of us in fulfilment of all He has promised us, for He is faithful in keeping His Word.Don't sin deliberately24What is more, we can encourage one another to walk in love, blessing one another in practical ways.25We certainly must not give up meeting together, as some have mistakenly done. No, we need the encouragement of being together as one body, and even more so as we eagerly await the Day when the Lord will return.

  • Remain spiritually alert1Now, my brothers, I have no need to write to you about when these events will take place,2for you can be sure that the Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, as a thief who comes in the night.3While some are saying: "Everything is peaceful and we are safe," sudden destruction will come upon them, in the same way that a pregnant woman suddenly has labour pains. They shall not escape!4However, my brothers, you do not live in ignorance, so that this Day will surprise you like a thief.5For you are all sons of the light and of the day. No, we do not belong to the spiritual night where all is darkness.6So let us be alert and ready, and not like those who are asleep spiritually.7People sleep at night and get drunk at night.8But because we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled in the way we live. Wear your faith and love like a breastplate and your hope of salvation like a helmet.9For God has not condemned us to suffer His wrath, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.10He died for us so that whether we are alive or have died at that time, we will live together with Him.Closing instructions11So continue to encourage one another and build each other up, as you are already doing.

  • S.O.A.P.

In order to go further in the mission God has given us, He said we need to go deeper in our relationship with Him. As with any tree or plant, the fruit is determined by the health and depth of the root. One way we have been going deeper is by reading and journaling through the Word every day. We’ve called it S.O.A.P.

    [S]cripture - Read the Word
[O]bservation - Write down what God is saying/showing you
[A]pplication - How do we apply this in our lives?
[P]rayer - Pray through and over your life

As we read the Word (Scripture), listen to the Holy Spirit (Observation), discover how to apply that to our lives (Application) and pray these things over our lives and those in the Church (Prayer) we’re going deeper in our relationship with God so that we can go further in the mission He’s given us.

Throughout the rest of the year we’ll be continuing our Bible Reading Plan to press deeper into God so that we can go further in His purposes. Get yourself a Bible, a journal and a pen and SOAP your way through the scriptures!

You can see which chapters we’re reading today above this section.
