How to know Jesus

going deeper ...to go further

Daily Bible reading strengthens our relationship with God, nourishes our spirits and equips us to live a fruitful, effective life for Him.

This month we're looking at scriptures which talk about Jews and Gentiles alongside a passage about love. The first scripture each day follows this outline:
Days 1-6 - The Foundation & the Prophets
Days 7-10 - Jesus and the Nations
Days 11-19 - The Early Church & the Gentiles
Days 20-30 - God’s Plan for Jews and Gentiles United in Christ
Day 31 - The Final Reminder of God’s Global Kingdom.

  • God wants Israel to be saved also25Brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant about this subject, which to some is a mystery. You must not become conceited. The reason why the Jewish people have been subjected to a hardening of their hearts is so that God can gather into His Kingdom all the non-Jewish people that He is calling.26But then He wants all Israel to be saved also. It is written: "He who God sends as the Deliverer of His people will come from among His chosen people, the Jews, and He will be the One to save them from their godless ways.27For they are still a covenant people; a people of promise and He will save them from all their sins."28At present they are enemies of the gospel, but only for your benefit. Yet they still retain God's calling; they are still the objects of God's love. He will still fulfil the promises given them through their forefathers.29For once God has called a people and set them apart for Himself, He will not change His mind, just as He will not take away the gifts He has already given us.30-31You were once disobedient towards God; yet now you have received His mercy and forgiveness. This is only because the gospel came to you through their disobedience. Just as you were disobedient and have now been saved, cannot they also turn from their disobedience and also receive the same mercy and forgiveness from God that you have already received?32God considered that all were disobedient to Him, whether Jewish or non-Jewish; so all are in need of His mercy. And He wants everyone to experience His mercy and forgiveness.33I am overwhelmed by the extent of the great riches that come from knowing and understanding God's wisdom. His judgments cannot be questioned, and no one can do what only He can do in leading people to salvation.34"Who can claim to understand everything about the way the Lord thinks? Who could dare to give Him advice?35What could any of us give to God that would obligate Him to give to us in return?"36Everything that we receive comes from God and is given through Christ, all for the outworking of His purposes. Yes, it is true: all the glory belongs to Him. He alone deserves to be honoured! Amen! It shall be so.

  • 24"Father, My desire is that all those You have given Me, now and in the future, will be with Me where I am going to be, so that they can see My glory for themselves, the glory You have given Me because You loved Me even before We created the world.25"Righteous Father, even though those who belong to the world do not know You, I know You, and those who believe know that You sent Me.26I have revealed the truth about You to them and I will continue to make You known to them, so that the same love You have for Me will be in them, and that I Myself will be expressed in their lives."

  • S.O.A.P.

In order to go further in the mission God has given us, He said we need to go deeper in our relationship with Him. As with any tree or plant, the fruit is determined by the health and depth of the root. One way we have been going deeper is by reading and journaling through the Word every day. We’ve called it S.O.A.P.

    [S]cripture - Read the Word
[O]bservation - Write down what God is saying/showing you
[A]pplication - How do we apply this in our lives?
[P]rayer - Pray through and over your life

As we read the Word (Scripture), listen to the Holy Spirit (Observation), discover how to apply that to our lives (Application) and pray these things over our lives and those in the Church (Prayer) we’re going deeper in our relationship with God so that we can go further in the mission He’s given us.

Throughout the rest of the year we’ll be continuing our Bible Reading Plan to press deeper into God so that we can go further in His purposes. Get yourself a Bible, a journal and a pen and SOAP your way through the scriptures!

You can see which chapters we’re reading today above this section.
